Sharing the bubbly with friends near and far on New Year's Eve.

Seems that this year's New Year Eve celebrations will be spent at home for many of us. Feels like holiday revelers have little to celebrate this year, yet it doesn't mean you can't break out the bubbly for New Year’s Eve to share with friends.

Let's face it, the majority of us have not had an easy 2009. Perhaps that's the best reason to celebrate the coming year that much more. A new year and a new decade. Out with the old and in with the new. New plans, revised thinking and a renewed outlook on what truly counts in life. Perhaps it's not about big parties and dancing til dawn with strangers in a cold nightclub, but a cozy night in with friendship bringing the warmth. My plans this year include sharing champagne with friends both near and far with gifts of champagne and phone calls after midnight. Thanks to my cell phone calling circle, the majority of my phone calls will be free. And thanks to the internet, my champagne gifts to friends who aren't a short car ride away will be hassle free with www.sendchampagne.com

With SEND.com, choices are numerous and includes champagnes & sparkling wines from leading wineries of the world like Louis Roederer, Veuve Cliquot, Moet & Chandon and Dom Perignon, Piper-Heidsieck, Perrier-Jouet, Taittinger, Schramsberg, Bollinger, Pol Roger and Mumm. There are also fabulous cost saving choices from Freixenet, Korbel, Martini & Rossi, Piper Sonoma and many others.

Customers can now save $5.00 on their champagne order over $35.00 when they use the coupon code SEND4NYE. This coupon expires January 4th 2010 and can be redeemed on all SEND.com websites.

One from the archives

A long time ago in a galaxy not so far away, send.com had TV commercials. These were commercials produced in the late 1990's by the original owners of send.com Back then, they sold golf memberships along with the many other thousands of gift items we have available now. Recently we found one of the old commercials and have posted the link here for prosperity.

The Giver - Golf ad

It's pretty darned funny too. The campaign originally had three or four spots made, so far the crew at send.com has only been able to find this one.

We'd love to hear from someone that may know where we can find the other TV spots that were produced.

Fun Thanksgiving feast facts

Some useless knowledge about food that we found intriguing:

46 million
The preliminary estimate of turkeys Minnesota expects to raise in 2007. The Gopher State is tops in turkey production. It is followed by North Carolina (39 million), Arkansas (31 million), Virginia (21.5 million), Missouri (21 million) and California (16.8 million). These six states together will probably account for about two-thirds of U.S. turkeys produced in 2007.

690 million pounds
The forecast for U.S. cranberry production in 2007, essentially unchanged from 2006 and 11 percent more than 2005. Wisconsin is expected to lead all states in the production of cranberries, with 390 million pounds, followed by Massachusetts (180 million). New Jersey, Oregon and Washington are also expected to have substantial production, ranging from 18 million to 52 million pounds.

1.6 billion pounds
The total weight of sweet potatoes — another popular Thanksgiving side dish — produced by major sweet potato producing states in 2006. North Carolina (702 million pounds) produced more sweet potatoes than any other state. It was followed by California (381 million pounds). Mississippi and Louisiana also produced large amounts: at least 200 million pounds each.

1 billion pounds
Total pumpkin production of major pumpkin-producing states in 2006. Illinois led the country by producing 492 million pounds of the vined orange gourd. Pumpkin patches in California, Ohio and Pennsylvania also provided plenty of pumpkins: Each state produced at least 100 million pounds. The value of all the pumpkins produced by major pumpkin-producing states was $101 million.

If you prefer cherry pie, you will be pleased to learn that the nation’s forecasted tart cherry production for 2007 totals 294 million pounds. Of this total, the overwhelming majority (230 million) will be produced in Michigan.

Pumpkin pie - not a crust to be found....

Found this incredibly tasty and fun drink recipe for fall. Note, there's nothing that even closely resembles pumpkin, except the name.... and the taste.

Pumpkin Pie in a Glass

1/2 oz Kahlua® coffee liqueur
1/2 oz Bailey's® Irish cream
1/4 oz cinnamon schnapps

Slowly layer ingredients one at a time into a tall shot glass.

Layering a drink is not the easiest thing to do, the trick is to pour it slowly over your bar spoon into the glass so that it does layer atop the previously poured liqeur with the heaviest one being on the bottom.

I honor of our veterans

The gang at send.com are always thinking. This week we honor the brave men and women who have fought and laid down their lives for the sake of our freedoms. We welcome them into our homes and hearts and have a few cocktails just for them.

Here's a drink recipe that your grandmother mixed while waiting for her boy to come marching home:

Dead Nazi
.25 oz Creme de Menthe
.25 oz OVAL Vodka

Mix together in shot glass, and take down!

Then there's our more traditionally named drinks for our heroes to sip and enjoy:

Veteran

2 oz. Dark Rum
1/2 oz. Cherry Brandy

Pour the rum and a cherry brandy into an old-fashioned glass almost filled with ice cubes, Stir and enjoy!

The Victory

1 fill with Club Soda
0.75 oz. Grenadine
1.5 oz. Pernod

Add Pernod and grenadine to a mixing glass filled with ice. Shake and strain into glass filled with ice. Fill with club soda.

Who woulda thunk it?!?!

The question the past few days here at the office is "Is there a drink recipe in honor of the NY Yankees?" Well, we racked our brain, consulted with the most savvy of cocktail part planners and bartenders, low and behold. There's quite a few!

This one we found the most fun and befitting of a Yankee fan.

The Yankee Clipper

* 1 oz. Amaretto
* 1 oz. Curacao, blue
* 1 oz. Sour Apple Pucker
* 1 oz. Vodka
* 1 oz. Sour Mix
* 1 splash Sprite

Combine ingredients with ice in a shaker and shake. Serve in a rocker glass, although some die hard Yankee fans do insist it should be served in a dark blue plastic disposable beer cup.

Authenticity, ya know?

Wedding season is upon us

So the gang here at Send Online noticed something interesting that we wanted to post about. Wedding season is in high gear up here. Our website sendbridal.com is getting really busy and we've been working our little hearts out to make sure that their wedding favours, cake knife sets and flowers are sent on time.
What we also noticed is alot of Champagne of the Month Club orders. And then we asked each other; Why didn't we think of that? What an awesome idea!

. A Champagne of the Month Club membership may be the most unique and thoughtful gift one can give to a newly wed couple.

The idea behind it is, since the couple was probably so busy at their wedding reception that they didn't get to enjoy their own champagne. The thoughtfulness that goes into this gift will be appreciated when they do get to share a glass of champagne, without having to stop for the wedding's social obligations.

I will also let them celebrate each month of their first year together with a toast to each other as well as to the gift giver.

Send Online’s Champagne club members enjoy the taste of Champagnes & Sparkling Wines from leading wineries of the world including Louis Roederer, Veuve Cliquot, Moet & Chandon, Piper-Heidsieck, Perrier-Jouet, Taittinger, Schramsberg, Bollinger, Pol Roger, Ruinart and Dom Perignon. Clubs are available in three, six and twelve month programs. Each comes with a certificate welcoming the newlyweds to the club and a new champagne to taste approximately every thirty days.

The Big Boss thought it was a terrific idea and is extending our wine club coupon to include all drink of the month club orders over $200.00. Customers who use the coupon code SEND20CLUB get $20.00 off their orders. This coupon is good through August 31st, 2009

Star spangled Weekend

We all had a great time at our supervisor's place on Friday night. The Tropical Itch was as tasty as it sounded and wow did it pack a punch!

The rest of the weekend found your blogger girl tasting different sangrias and wine drinks. Sangria is an incredible drink experience and everyone seems to have their own recipe for it. The traditional recipe calls for Red Wine, carbonated water or water with a citrus flavor, and fruit. Funny what people would call a sangria just because it has fruit in it.

One of the many parties I attended this weekend had a sangria which I swear had peachs schnapps and vodka in it, along with red wine (we're assuming for color as we didn't taste wine). I renamed it "Wrecking Ball" due to the globe shaped glasses they were served in that contained this concoction. Tad strong is what the guests declared. It's an old fashioned with out the mashing part......

For those of us that want to enjoy a sangria in the traditional sense, here is the recipe that most mixologists consider the basic:

1 Bottle of red wine (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Rioja reds, Zinfandel, Shiraz)
1 Lemon cut into wedges
1 Orange cut into wedges
2 Tbsp sugar
1 Shot brandy
2 Cups ginger ale or club soda

Preparation:
Pour wine in the pitcher and squeeze the juice wedges from the lemon and orange into the wine. Toss in the fruit wedges (leaving out seeds if possible) and add sugar and brandy. Chill overnight. Add ginger ale or club soda just before serving.

Chilling overnight brings out the flavors best to ensure a wonderful drink experience.

Red wines, domestic and imported are all available at our Send Liquor website. The free ground shipping coupon is good until tomorrow when you use the coupon code (good til midnight on 7/7/09) SHIP4SEND. This coupon also gives you $15. off express orders for those who want 2 and 3 day shipping.

Scratching an itch.

This evening we'll be trying a new cocktail named "Tropical Itch" As we're all itching to get started with our July 4th weekend celebrations. So shortly after we wish the Big Boss a farewell on his weekend trip with the Mrs. to Washington D.C. for the fireworks, we'll be firing up the Barbeque grill and getting our new drink on.

Thank goodness for supervisors who live less than five minutes from the office. We won't have far to go to enjoy tasty treats, barbequed goodness and scratching our Tropical Itch.

Tropical Itch

1oz. Vodka
1oz. Light Rum
1/2 oz. Orange Curacao or Grand Marnier
3 - 4 oz. Passion Fruit Juice

Combine in a shaker with a cup of ice. Pour, with ice into a double old fashion or Collins glass. Top with additional passion fruit juice if needed.

What's in a name?

A rose by any other name would smell just as sweet. But here the question is does a drink called Dark and Stormy would taste dark and stormy?

Not really. This drink recipe originally from Bermuda, was probably named that due to the color and carbonation that makes it look like a dark storm in a Collins glass. This is a light summer drink, perfect for those hot summer days or cool summer nights this year.

2 ounces dark rum
4 ounces ginger beer
½ ounce fresh squeezed lime juice

Pour ingredients over ice in a Collins glass, garnish with a lime wedge. Our product testers here at send online (a.k.a. the Send Online Customer Support staff on a Friday night after hours) tried the recipe using ginger beer and ginger ale. Ginger beer may be a bit hard to find depending on what part of the country you are, but the taste is worth the effort in finding ginger beer. It gives it a hot, spicy aftertaste that ginger ale doesn’t.

We recommend using a good spiced rum like Meyer’s or an Appelton Estates for authentic flavor. A dose of the Captain (Captain Morgan’s spiced rum) works well too.

Send Online’s http://www.sendliquor.com offers express delivery to most states and around the world. Readers of our blog can enjoy more savings now. Spend $25.00 on any item from any of our affiliate websites and save $5.00 on your order when you use the coupon code SEND5BLOG.

Who sends a cheesecake for Valentine's Day?

Lots of folks it seems. Our online store was jammed packed today with shoppers sending cheesecakes for their sweeties. I guess not everyone is the chocoholic like I am. What helped make today so busy was the new coupon code send.com just released for our site Send Cheesecakes

It's great, not only are the cheesecakes incredibly delicious, but now any order over $30.00 gets $3.00 off. Just for typing in the code VDcheese2-14. How simple is that?!? Seems like you should be clipping coupons and have newspapers everywhere. This makes things incredibly easy, seems like it's almost stealing it's so simple....

These cheesecakes look so amazing and are shipped out overnight so that they arrive fresh.

Gee whiz this job makes me hungry.

Winter wonderland

Through rain or sleet or gloom of night can keep send.com customer support from their appointed rounds. Steady snow here in Princeton, NJ makes for a pretty scene outside our windows. We're in full gear up here for Valentines day. I'm seeing some beautiful gifts being ordered from sendchocolates.com

Being an admitted chocoholic I've found the monthly clubs to be a temptation I need to indulge upon myself. When I learned about the Six months of Kisses club, my mind began scheming. How I could get my beloved future husband to send me this for Valentine's Day without directly telling him that it's what I want for Valentine's Day. Luckily,my sweetie is also an admitted chocoholic and makes no excuses for it. In that revelation, I found my answer; order it for him for Valentines Day! Cause that really is the best kind of gift you can give.. The one you'd want for yourself..... :p
