Star spangled Weekend

We all had a great time at our supervisor's place on Friday night. The Tropical Itch was as tasty as it sounded and wow did it pack a punch!

The rest of the weekend found your blogger girl tasting different sangrias and wine drinks. Sangria is an incredible drink experience and everyone seems to have their own recipe for it. The traditional recipe calls for Red Wine, carbonated water or water with a citrus flavor, and fruit. Funny what people would call a sangria just because it has fruit in it.

One of the many parties I attended this weekend had a sangria which I swear had peachs schnapps and vodka in it, along with red wine (we're assuming for color as we didn't taste wine). I renamed it "Wrecking Ball" due to the globe shaped glasses they were served in that contained this concoction. Tad strong is what the guests declared. It's an old fashioned with out the mashing part......

For those of us that want to enjoy a sangria in the traditional sense, here is the recipe that most mixologists consider the basic:

1 Bottle of red wine (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Rioja reds, Zinfandel, Shiraz)
1 Lemon cut into wedges
1 Orange cut into wedges
2 Tbsp sugar
1 Shot brandy
2 Cups ginger ale or club soda

Preparation:
Pour wine in the pitcher and squeeze the juice wedges from the lemon and orange into the wine. Toss in the fruit wedges (leaving out seeds if possible) and add sugar and brandy. Chill overnight. Add ginger ale or club soda just before serving.

Chilling overnight brings out the flavors best to ensure a wonderful drink experience.
